Left Behind

Pastel on toned paper, 2019 | Regional Silver Key

Each element in this piece is something “left behind”: the skull from a deer, the antique jar from the past, the stone from the earth, the shell from the ocean, the fur from an animal. Although these objects no longer serve the original purpose of their past lives, their value persists through beauty and décor. My muted blue color scheme and still life composition evoke positive feelings of calmness, symbolizing serenity in the cycle of life.
