Only You

Oil on canvas, 2024

Through this self portrait, I aimed to capture the enchanting nature of sunlight and our human connection to it. The background uses teal tones, which contrast with the warm oranges of the skin and hair and make the subject stand out. Floral patterns in the shadows complement the cutouts in the sweater, subtly connecting the subject back to her surroundings.

The title, “Only You,” relates to the importance of intentional self-growth. The figure’s surroundings both complement and contrast her colors and clothing patterns. It is only her choice to adapt and grow in response to shifting outer circumstances.
