Peak
Acrylic on Canvas, 2020 | Regional Gold Key
The center blueberries, framed by a hand of contrasting color, are a clear focal point. These blueberries are painted in more detail and texture than any others, drawing the viewer’s attention. Dimension in this otherwise simple composition is created by scale of the background blueberries compared to the ones in the forground. Subtle details in the coloration of the hand create form, with blue undertones in the wrist bringing this subject to life.
The reference for this painting was taken in Ludington Michigan after a long day of blueberry picking. I’ll be honest, blueberry picking is not my favorite activity. The rewards, however, are always worth it. This painting captures the “peak” and abundance brought by hard work.
