Watching Rods

Oil on canvas, 2024

“Watching Rods” explores the allure of the sea during fishing. As the water shifts, reflections of fishing rods transform into organic curves that drift across the water surface. Changing waveforms gently bend light, creating bright bands that dance along wave crests. These subtle movements of light invite the fisherman to contemplate the sea’s mesmerizing surface, revealing the natural beauty that arises through patience and observation.

My color palette (phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, burnt sienna) allowed me to subtly shift the blue hues and create a rich black. I started with a pink underpainting, which gives a purple tone in the thinner layers, especially near the horizon.
