Liquid Flame

Acrylic on canvas, 2024. 5″x7″

While these fiery forms evoke something celestial, this painting is simply an observation of the patterns found in a small stream near Mount Rainier. Reflections in the water create an unexpected resemblance to flowing lava and solar flares, blurring the boundary between the opposing elements of fire and water. By looking more closely at the ordinary, we recognize that even the coolest elements of nature can take on the appearance of heat. This resemblance speaks to the shared energetic processes that shape patterns throughout the natural world.
