Four Dollars
Drypoint etching, 2021 | National Medal, Regional Gold Key
This piece is inspired by the bottles I saw in an antique shop, which caught my eye when sunlight illuminated them. Without the contents that originally defined their value, these bottles are now worthless. However, their ageless beauty is highlighted by the light intersecting their glass, giving them new worth. The depth, shadows, and light in my print were achieved using hatching techniques I learned by studying Albrecht Dürer, a master Renaissance printmaker.
