The subject of this print holds blooming flowers in a cloche, representing that she wants to preserve their beauty. However, a clock in the background symbolizes that as time passes, the natural decay of these flowers is inevitable: it would be more rewarding to appreciate this cycle than to try to end it. My concept is inspired by Vanitas paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, which use symbolic elements to illustrate the unavoidable cycle of life and therefore the pointlessness in material living.
